Constipation
Do you know it is not normal to poop every 3 days? It is not normal to poop every other day. It is certainly not normal to poop every 2 weeks. We have patients come in all the time thinking their bowel habits are normal when they are not going between 1 and 3 times a day. Our record is 31 days!!!!!!!! OUCH!!!!
Constipation however is extremely common, just not normal. If you are not going every day here are a couple of quick things to try:
Water, water and more water which is necessary to help move fecal material through the intestines. Increase your water intake to see if this helps. Yes you should be urinating more often and that is good if it is during the day, inconvenient, but good.
Eliminate junk food
Increase fiber
Exercise: walking can even help move bowels
Eliminate dairy and gluten products: dairy is a common sensitivity that causes both contipation and diarrhea, gluten is very inflammatory.
Start with these simple things and if you still aren’t pooping every day, see your doctor. Remember every 2, 3 or 4 days is common but not NORMAL!
The Poop Blog!
I want to share a new blog with you that I have started. This is a new forum about poop! Seriously it is a resource to discuss gut function, problems and suggestions for a healthy digestive system. Everyone poops but no one discusses it. That ends here. We can talk all you want with one goal in mind. I want to see the world moving bowels at least once a day, feeling like they have emptied, and healthier because of it. If you need advice, want to share or are just plain curious about who would blog about poop, check us out at: http://drhoward.wordpress.com. See you at the blog.
